Oppo’s upcoming successor to the ultra-thin, stylish R5 handset, which is rumoured to be released later this month has a bigger brother apparently. The phone has apparently leaked in a TV commercial of the device, showing a larger display and notably a fingerprint sensor on the rear.
The commercial gave two looks at both the Oppo R7 and the R7 Plus, showing the front and rear. The phone will come with their much vaunted VOOC turbo-charging capability, which allows a device to have the battery topped off in a very small amount of time. As you can see the R7 Plus will be a larger device, and on the rear a fingerprint sensor is quite prominently placed beneath the center mounted camera module.
Oppo has begun teasing the R7 in the lead-up to launch, but this is the first we’ve seen of the R7 Plus model. The R7 will come with a full metal unibody design, which appears to be carried over to the larger bodied model.
Spec wise, we expect to see the R7 released with either a 1.5 GHz 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, or a MediaTek 1.7GHz octa-core MT6752 processor, possibly with the Qualcomm coming to Australia, the first western market that Oppo have launched in.
Oppo hasn’t made any official announcements on release of the handset, but we will be watching with interest to see if the R7 will arrive on the Oppomobile Australia website in the coming months.
