Mediatek has announced a new generation of their Helios processor overnight, the Helios H20. The new generation of processor is the first to offer ten cores on chip – a deca-core processor, which they say will be available in late 2015.
The processor uses a new Tri-Cluster arrangement of the ARM big.LITTLE architecture, and also integrates Cat 6 LTE connectivity. The new processor is more power efficient than their previous Helios processor, offering power improvements in video encoding/decoding and higher-end camera processing up to 32MP.
The Tri-Cluster setup will reportedly allow for them to supply more consistent power to power hungry applications, while using the lower end clusters to hand off the audio and connectivity work.
MediaTek’s Tri-Cluster CPU architecture in the Helio X20 provides three processor clusters, each designed to more efficiently handle different types of workloads. The Tri-Cluster CPU consists of one cluster of two ARM Cortex-A72 cores (running at 2.5GHz for extreme performance) and two clusters of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores (one running at 2.0GHz for medium loads and one running at 1.4GHz for light activities).
Mediatek forsees availability of the processor in devices by December 2015.

The source actually refers to a 20mm process….yep: mm. This is most likely an error, but….
