Hot on the heels of the latest YouTube update, which correctly displays portrait video, the team at YouTube has begun rolling out a new app to a limited number of users offering improvements to subscribing to channels, as well as better editing and publishing options for YouTube creators.

The new app was announced by YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki during the VidCon conference which is currently underway in California in the US. Along with the ability to subscribe to a channel with a single touch, the YouTube app will also allow easier access to your subscriptions and profile. For YouTube creators, the ability for viewers to subscribe more easily, means they can reach the new ‘Diamond’ status when they get to 10 Million subscribers.

New YouTube App

Also announced is that the YouTube app will soon support 3D Virtual Reality video, a move which should make Cardboard users quite happy.

There are reports of the new YouTube app being seeded in the wild right now, so you should see it pushed to your device quite soon, then we just need some awesome new 3D Virtual Reality videos to be uploaded. If you haven’t subscribed to the Ausdroid YouTube channel, head over now, we’ll be uploading more videos from events as they come up.

Good scoop, Ausdroid! I don’t believe I’ve seen this confirmed anywhere else just yet.
