Mugen, who are well known in the mobile world for producing high-capacity batteries for handheld devices, have announced the latest addition to their line of said batteries, with support for the LG G4. Dubbed the HLI-G4XL Mugen Power 6200 mAh Extended Battery for LG G4, which we’ll just call Mugen’s big new battery, the battery is slightly more than double the size of LG’s included 3,000 mAh battery.

Just how long could such a whale of a battery last? Depending on your usage pattern, and thinking about my own, I think such a battery would easily get me through a day and a half, and possibly two, depending on what I was up to. If you’re a light user, such a battery could well last you into three or four days.

While the battery is compatible with the LG G4, it certainly changes the physical appearance of the phone just a little.240050

Some, like me, would say its not especially pretty to look at, and certainly takes away from LG’s fairly thin design for the G4, which is one of its selling points. However, if you’re a true road warrior and you really push your devices’ batteries to their limits, this might not be such a bad idea for you. Though it changes the shape of your device, it does come in slightly cheaper than external battery cases from Incipio and Mophie, though it does offer slightly less overall capacity (as those cases add to the existing 3,000 mAh battery on board, rather than replacing it). The flip side is that you don’t have to worry about charging the case, flipping switches or anything like that — it’s just there, and it’s big, and it works.

Mugen’s 6200 mAh battery for the LG G4 is available for $89.50 USD direct from Mugen’s website, and it’ll probably show up other places soon enough as well.
