That’s how the saying goes; when it rains, it pours. Just today we’ve gotten our first look at what Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 looks like, and now we know what’s inside, thanks to Evan Blass and his well placed sources. Speaking to Evan informally, there’s little doubt that these specs are the real thing, so read on and enjoy.
There’s little doubt that Samsung’s yet-to-be-announced Galaxy Note 5 is going to be an absolute power-house of a device. Known internally as the Noble (or NobileLTE), and numbed SM-920, the Galaxy Note 5 will feature an Exynos 7420 System on Chip — we’re talking an Octa-core processor with 4 x 2.1 GHz cores and 4 x 1.5 GHz cores — paired with a huge 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.
This power will be hidden behind a 5.66″ display running at 2560 x 1440 pixels, giving an effective pixel density of 519ppi (which itself is really significant). The rear camera is a 16MP shooter with LED flash, and a 5 MP front camera (though there’s no front flash). That we’re aware, there’s no MicroSD expandability here, continuing the trend started by the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year.
The Note’s signature S-Pen will be included as well, as you can see above.
All this is expected to be in a razor frame, like the S6 range as well. The only things we don’t really know yet are the battery capacity and price, and when we’ll see it in Australia, but on that latter note, the expectation is “soon”, given how quickly Samsung got the S6 range to Australia after the launch at MWC.

If the note 5 and 6+ get Manual controls and raw on the camera then will be the upgrade of choice. With my work now work emails are mandatory on our devices but with the annoyance of them being encrypted.. So the touch ID would be great rather than to type my passcode everytime I want to unlock my phone. The G4 is still my top pick but the annoyance of a 8 digit password can be annoying..
Show me the software, and the level of bloat, then I’ll decide.
Not worth the upgrade from Note 4.
Most phones aren’t worth upgrading at all at this point. Unless it’s from around 2011 or so. At this point it’s a battle of specs and software features. We pretty much have everything we actually need in a smart phone.
I was going to be interested in this, then I realised that I could probably get a OnePlus 2 or a Moto X Style which will probably be at least 95% as good for like half the price.
Really dissapointed of the truth of no sdcard & non-removable battery on Note 5. If this is the case I’ better go for iphone.
Because it has a SD card and removable better?
What is puzzling me, is this. Apple sells phones without SD card expansion and removable batteries and they make millions and no one seems to care. What’s the difference with Samsung? Please explain.
The majority of samsungs consumers who complain about sd cards are tech literate. People buying iPhones probably don’t care enough about technology to care about expansion.
And IPhone customers have had 8 years to come to terms with the fact they don’t get expandable storage. I’m sure if customers were used of the IPhone having this feature, and the next IPhone took this away, then you would see people complain about the IPhone taking it away.
Bummer about the lack of an SD card. Why are manufacturers doing this?!
This might be a good time for everyone to refer back to the Note 4 specs, before getting too excited, it has the same resolution and also has 32GB internal storage…
I have a Note 4; the screen is great, it has a removable battery and takes a micro SD. Despite the faster CPU and increased RAM, I see the Note 5 as a step backwards and will wait to see if Samsung works this out with the Note 6.
Yeah but its running touchwiz so its already going to be lagging on those specs.
Stop with the TouchWiz hate bandwagon. It’s been pretty good for a couple of years now. And at this point, it’s pretty clean, and as smooth as ever.
As smooth as it has ever, yet my old moto g out performs my friends s5.
It doesn’t have a better camera, screen or 4g but the ui is ridiculously snappy for a sd400 with 1gb ram
I was interested but there better be more than a 32GB option as without an SDCARD thats too small.
I’m with you there Dennis 100%. Actually, it’s a bit disappointing when you compare it with the current Galaxy S6, I mean if this is now supposed to be the Flagship top of the line unit and no doubt with a premium premium price.
New moto x has a 5.7 inch display with sd support non replaceable battery tho and the 16gb variant starts at 399usd
