Following on from a stream of previous leaks Android Police are reporting on information received from a ‘reliable source’ – AP have a good reputation for quality information – that detail many of the rumoured specifications for the Nexus 5 2015. Google is rumoured to be working on two Nexus phones for this year the 5″ manufactured by LG and a 6″ model to be manufactured by Huawei. Remember as with all rumours, no matter the source – salt will be required when digesting the details.
According to the source, the new 5″ Nexus from LG will incorporate:
- 5.2″ FDH – 1080p – display, display type has not been confirmed eg. LCD vs AMOLED
- Snapdragon 808 processor
- 3GB of RAM
- 12.3 MP rear camera sensor – no details on OIS, flash or auto-focusing technology were elucidated
- 2700 mAh battery
- USB type C connector
- 16 and 32GB variants
- Available in black, white or blue.
That’s a fairly decent range of specs and lands the much-anticipated sequel to the popular – in some circles – Nexus 5 in the low to middle position of the high-end devices. No mention was made regarding materials, build quality or if it will continue Google’s recent trend of including Qi wireless charging in the Nexus line up.
Google has been fairly consistent with an October announcement for November availability of the Nexus phones over the past few years. However, the all knowing rumour’s have speculated that the 5″ Nexus could break cover as early as September. As always we will be keeping an eye out for all things Nexus so check back as the saga continues.
How do these specs stack up against your wishlist? What would you want to see?
Only 32gb and no uSD, also another small battery. Moto x please.
1080p screen with a 2700mah battery might not be too bad!
The moto x play was looking good, but no gyro is a bit ๐ for me.
I really don’t care about specs anymore. Put a sub-$500 Nexus phone on the market, and I will buy it…
that is a good point. Motorola have shown that you don’t need the highest specs to run Android smoothly. Look at SGS6, it has high end specs and still runs like a dog. I think we are at a point where specs don’t matter as much anymore (although things like onboard storage will always matter- i am more referring to CPU, RAM etc)
A Nexus version of something like the Moto G (1st, 2nd or 3rd generation), with great battery life and a good camera, and priced in a similar way, would make me more than happy.
Given the pricing on the “high-end” phones, I’d rather have a decent ‘mid-range’ phone for a decent price. My current N5 still does everything I want of a phone so I’m rather looking forward to this. I have a high end tablet for “mobile processing power”. I’m glad it’s only a 1080p screen as well, the extra battery required to drive a higher res is just going to decrease the daily life span. I hope the 2700mAh is enough to make it last all day though! I agree with Andrew, would have been nice to see a 64GB option, although… Read more ยป
No quick charge? It seems really a cheap phone.
I am assuming and hoping that quick charge will be standard
Seems pretty mid-range. Glad they only have a 1080 display, absolutely no point in anything higher on a phone and should help keep power drainage down.
16gb and 32gb options seem a little small now, would be nice to have the lower end 32gb and then a 64gb.
Yay for USB C (no need to keep flipping the plug around). Boo for no USB 3 (same old, slow USB 2 transfer speeds).
Hope that battery capacity is not the actual one, why does google have the tendency of making phones with terrible battery life???
Typo in camera details (2.3 MP)
Its a nexus, looks legit to me
Actually, that’s a good point ๐
Thanks Dylan; should’ve been 12.3 MP. Fixed in the body. 2.3 would be about right for the average Nexus though .. ๐
