Last week Oppo cemented its partnership with FC Barcelona at a press conference in Beijing at which they announced a special “FCB Edition” of their new R7 Plus phone with a signed phone going up for auction for charity.

Today we have more details on the first of five auctions. On offer is an R7 Plus FCB Edition that’s been signed by FCB star players Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Dani Alves. You also get an FCB water bottle, protective case, a VOOC power bank and a blue Oppo selfie stick.

This special edition auction ends on Saturday night, and is currently commanding a US$1350 spend – possibly a bargain if you’re an FC Barcelona fan and after these players’ autographs. It’s worth noting that the model on offer doesn’t support Australian 4GX/4G+ bands (bands 5 and 28) but will work on other common networks (including Optus Band 40 TD-LTE).

The auction details also reveal that five such auctions are planned, and it sounds like there will be some other players’ autographs on offer on the other phones. The auction proceeds are going to the FC Barcelona Foundation, the entity by which FC Barcelona aims to be “more than a club” and forms alliances with organisations like UNICEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the International Olympic Committee and more.

Oppo is also offering a 5-night trip for two to Barcelona to see the team in action – to enter, you just need to share the auction on Facebook or Twitter with the “#OPPOxFCB” hashtag. The winner will be announced on September 20.

Before discovering the Nexus One, Jason thought he didn't need a smartphone. Now he can't bear to be without his Android phone. Jason hails from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane depending on his mood and how detailed a history you'd like. A web developer by day with an interest in consumer gadgets and electronics, he also enjoys reading comics and has a worryingly large collection of Transformers figures. He'd like to think he's a gamer, but his Wii has been in a box since he moved to Sydney, and his PlayStation Vita collection is quite lacking. Most mornings you'll find him tilting at various windmills on Twitter - follow @JM77 and say hi!
