With Android 6.0 rolling out to Nexus handsets, it’s time to look at what’s happening with market share for the rest of the Android eco-system. These results are a great indicator for developers as to which platforms they should target their app development.
To start with, it looks like Lollipop is still steadily gaining market share topping out at 23.5% market share – when combining 5.0 and 5.1. The king of course is Android 4.4 (KitKat) which launched in September 2013, taking 38.9% of the market. Combined market share between these top versions tops out at over 63% market share – a decent result.
The rest of the stats show a fairly steady decline in market share, except for perennial entry FroYo (Android 2.2) which continues to hold on with 0.2% market share. As usual for your viewing pleasure, the results are listed below compared to last months numbers.
