While the Americans are eating themselves into food comas this weekend, the team at Instagram are ensuring they can spam their friends with artsy turkey pics to multiple accounts from the same device, without the annoying need to log out of one account and then log in to another – Hallelujah.
The option for multiple accounts has been frustrating for a number of people who run dual Instagram accounts for whatever reason, but it may mean some of your business feeds – like the Ausdroid Instagram account – will get more active as the need to log out and back in won’t be required.
The nitty gritty is that the update appears to be tied to the latest version of the app, which is currently on the Instagram beta channel (v 7.12.0), which is currently in testing, and if you’re interested you can join. Of course this being the internet this Beta version can be installed on your devices right now – but it does appear to be linked to a server side switch as it’s not quite live for everyone – though if you join the beta program it could be the prompt needed to add it to your account.
So. How do you enable it once you’ve got it? Well, unfortunately we haven’t gotten the server side switch enabled on our Instagram yet, but it seems Rita over at Android Police has and she explains that if you go to Settings and scroll down to the bottom, there is a new options for accounts including creating new accounts, logging out of your current account and logging out of all accounts. Once you have multiple accounts installed on your profile you can click on the selector at the top of the page and select from multiple profiles.
We’ve joined in the Beta program in the hope that we’ll see that server side switch to include multiple account support hit our Instagram as soon as possible – this is really a very welcome change.
If you’re on the Beta channel, let us know if you have multiple account support.
Don’t suppose you’ve got it yet? I joined the beta program right after you posted this article, and still no luck. 🙁
They scrubbed it quite quickly – but I suspect it will be back.
Damn it! Got my hopes up…
