The LG G4 came darn close to our phone of the year, it was an excellent effort from LG, but the Nexus 6P was just too good in the end – but the LG G5 could be a different story, at least according to a ‘leak’ that’s appeared on reddit.
Yep, you read that right – reddit. We’ve seen leaks on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, so why not reddit? User mobile_leaks has posted a list of specs over on the site which read like a dream come true for most Android users, as well as pics of a new dual camera set-up and a purported screenshot of the specs listing.
Rumoured LG G5 specs:
- 5.3 inch quad hd (sweet spot)
- Full metal body
- Micro SD card and sim slot on the right
- IR blaster on top
- 3gb ram
- Snapdragon 820
- 16mp + 8mp + heart rate+laser focus sensor in the back
- 8mp front camera
- Bottom firing speaker
- USB type -C
- Pressure sensor found
- Finger print reader same like lgv10
- Duel(sic) camera on the back
The rear of the phone will include the dual-camera setup as well as the laser auto-focus and the fingerprint sensor will be built into the rear keys on the phone like the LG V10 which was released earlier this year in the US. That fingerprint sensor has had some criticism surrounding it in reviews, so hopefully LG resolves those issues before the G5 hits the market.
A full metal body is an interesting choice, addressing many of the concerns raised of the G4 which still used the plastic body they’ve used for a number of years. Plastic is of course a very durable material and able to handle falls and bumps with a lot more ease than other materials, but the premium feel of a metal body can’t be denied so it’s a good choice, at least to see if it works.
LG will very likely launch the phone with Marshmallow on board, though whether they will update their own skin from UX 4.0 from the G4 to a new version (UX 5.0) isn’t clear.
LG has been getting earlier and earlier with their G series phone launch every year and early buzz is we could see the phone as early as Mobile World Congress – but we’ll see if that rumour holds water soon enough. As to this rumour, it’s a spec lovers dream, so we hope there’s some legs in it.
Two rear cameras… Ugh why?
If it has LG’s UI, it’ll never be a dream phone to me.
Hardware doesn’t denote a dream phone, software does.
“5.3 inch quad hd (sweet spot)” Unfortunately, having gotten used to a 5.5″ display for the last year or so, I wouldn’t be comfortable going down to a smaller screen. While I can certainly appreciate the feelings of those who prefer smaller screens on their phones and who might find 5.3″ (or smaller) is indeed their ‘sweet spot’ I am curious as to whether they have actually spent any time getting used to a phone with a larger display. I can easily imagine someone picking up a large phone in a shop and thinking, no, this isn’t for me but… Read more »
I remember going from the Nexus S (4.0″) to the Galaxy Nexus (4.65″). I flogged it off after a few days because it was too big. Now my main phone is the 5.5″ Play, so your point is valid! 🙂
Yes went from note 4 back to regular galaxy. Just too awkward in pocket, having to adjust my pocket before sitting down or bending down etc… 5.1 is my preference
went from a note 4 to a xperia z5 compact. So glad I went small.
much prefer one handed use and being able to grip it comfortably.
I’d be surprised if LG went from 5.5″ to 5.3″, especially given the small bezels on the G4. I must admit that I’ve wondered why there haven’t been any phones between 5.2″ and 5.5″. For me, 5.5″ with no bezels like the G3/G4 and the Moto X Play is perfect. However, 5.5″ phones such as the Zenfone 2 and Alcatel Idol 3 are taller and wider, and are pushing the limit of one-handed use.
Full metal body = no wireless charging. Hope this isn’t the case.
Qualcomm has their wireless charging spec which works with metal body phones.

I hope this is the case. I didn’t think it would be ready for mass production this soon though
5.3″ (sweet spot)….. Lol
That sounds like Rumored s7
