Google purchased blogging platform Blogger back in 2003, and they’ve been hosting their official blogs on the platform. Today, Google has announced that will be changing with blogs beginning the move to the ‘Googleblog.com’ domain.
The move will affect all Google blogs, though changes will occur ‘over time’ rather than as an immediate change. The change to a new domain is to help people recognise that the blog is an official Google blog rather than a fly-by-night operator who snagged a convenient blogspot.com domain.
As for what you need to do, it appears that Google will be redirecting users to the new site, so all your bookmarks, links and RSS feeds should continue to work – though the Google+ comments on the blogs have been reset.
If you’re looking for the new URL, you’ll find the Google Developers team over at developers.googleblog.com, and the rest of the Google blogs will follow soon.
Maybe Google will look at selling blogger or floating it off?
