Alcatel has launched its “life proof” Go Play smartphone in Australia at a wallet-friendly price point of $299.
For your $300 you’ll get a 5 inch 720p screen with an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera and a 2,500 mAh battery packaged in one of five colourful finishes (yellow/lime green, white/orange, red/black, black/grey or orange/blue). There’s not a huge amount of storage packed in (just 8GB) but you can expand it up to 32GB with a Micro SD card. It’s all running Android 5.0 Lollipop under the hood.
The phone is billed as “life proof” with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, and there’s also shock protection in case you drop your phone. Alcatel’s pitching it as a good fit someone with a fun and active lifestyle who might expect their phone to take a few bumps, and we think you’ll find it works well as a first phone for some members of your family.
