This year’s Galaxy Note has been heavily rumoured to be skipping a generation in terms of naming. The original Galaxy Note arrived the same year as the immensely popular, but smaller Galaxy S2 and since then the version numbers of Samsung’s two major yearly phone updates have been a number off – that will end this year.
According to a tweet from noted internet leaker Evan Blass, who has supplied the logo for the upcoming phone, the Samsung Galaxy Note will indeed be the Galaxy Note 7.

According to rumour, the Galaxy Note 7 will be announced at an event in New York on the 2nd of August. The phone will have a dual-edge 5.7″ QHD resolution OLED display, though it’s still unclear on whether a standard design option will be available. Internally a Snapdragon 823 SoC or Exynos chipset (depending on region) will be powering the handset. A 4,000mAh battery (non-removeable) will be keeping it all going, and the phone will be IP68-certified for water and dust resistance just like the Galaxy S7. Samsung will also include a USB Type-C port for the first time.
Further tweets suggest 64GB of on-board storage plus microSD, a 12MP rear / 5MP front camera setup, and three colour choices: black, silver and blue.
The Galaxy Note launches are always a big deal for Samsung, going up against the now yearly release schedule of the iPhone. Apple certainly came around to the idea of phones with 5.5″+ screens after the Galaxy Note got very popular, but it’s all the same really, people go with whichever device suits their needs. We’ll hopefully be on the ground for the launch, we’re just waiting invites to be sent out.
