After going live for customers in the app earlier today, ING has this afternoon announced the official details of their Android Pay integration. ING has taken the opportunity to launch a charitable side to their Android Pay integration, offering to donate $1 for every transaction made to technology platform AbilityMate.

The ING Direct Android Pay integration is live for Orange Everyday customers to add their debit card to the Android Pay app. It’s an integration that ING Direct recognises as simple, with John Arnott, Executive Director, Customers, at ING DIRECT saying

Our Orange Everyday transaction account customers love mobile technology, and with Android Pay they will be able to use the latest technology for their everyday purchases. It’s so simple and convenient that it has the potential to make a big difference to how we go about our daily lives.

The launch is exciting in and of itself for ING Direct customers, but ING will be encouraging use of the new technology available by donating $1 for every purchase made using Android Pay with ING DIRECT between 22 August 2016 and 2 October 2016 to AbilityMate. ING Direct will donate a minimum of $25,000 but if customers get on board and start tapping and paying, that figure could rise to a maximum of $50,000.

AbilityMate is a an ‘Open-Source community inventing products for an inclusive society’, they create 3D printable, open-source, assistive devices. Devices such as finger joystick and t-bar toggles, theraputic splints and more. Mr Arnott said

We have teamed up with AbilityMate, so that while our customers are using technology to make their lives easier, they will in turn be contributing towards an amazing technology platform that can make a huge difference in the lives of those living with disabilities or mobility issues.

Android Pay is now available at over 38 Australian Financial Institutions – but there are more set to come. Westpac, St George, Bendigo Bank and more are still advising they are working to bring Android Pay support to customers in the near future – though how near that is isn’t clear. We’ll be keeping an eye out on the list of banks being added, but let us know if your bank sneaks support in.

You can check out all the details about ING Direct and their implementation of Android Pay on their website.

I thought they discontinued that cashback promo. Was the reason I didn’t change to them now that NAB loans are payed out

Any ideas if the 2% cashback also works with Android Pay?

    It doesn’t work
I asked ING about this when AndroidPay was announced and they confirmed it would not work.
Funny they launch this campaign as until the end of Sept, I will keep using PayWave for that 2%

I am wondering how can they distinguish between pay by Android pay and physical card as both are tap and pay technology. But I will try and see tomorrow.
