Earlier this year we saw the OnePlus 3 released and it definitely looked to be a great phone for a very low price, as OnePlus and many other Chinese manufacturers are able to accomplish. The problem was that not only was it not shipping officially to Australia but it did not support all of our LTE bands. Now, nearly 6 months on from that release it seems OnePlus are ready to release an incremental update/upgrade to the OnePlus 3 called the OnePlus 3T.
The OnePlus 3T (Turbo) has surfaced on everyone’s favourite Chinese board where so many leaks come from, Weibo. The rumours have it sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 alongside a massive 6GB of RAM, 64GB of UFS 2.0 storage and a 16MP rear facing camera with a Sony IMX298 sensor and 8MP front-facing camera. There is once again a fingerprint sensor, USB-C to go with 4G VoLTE connectivity and a 3000mAh battery which supports Dash Charge. It will run Android 7.0 out of the box. The display on the 3T is where rumours contradict themselves. Some rumours say it will use an LCD display due to a shortage of AMOLED displays but Carl Pei has said that OnePlus would be “staying with Optic AMOLED displays for the foreseeable future” (OnePlus’ trademark for AMOLED screens on their devices).
The OnePlus 3T design is set to be the same as the OnePlus 3 as is the pricing which is a relatively cheap $399US. Whether they decide to support more LTE bands this time (specifically Australian bands of course) is unknown but we can only hope so. If they do I suspect there will be many out there who are looking for a phone with high end specs at a very reasonable price running near stock Android who will be very interested in it.
