Google’s popular developer conference will be returning to the Shoreline Amphitheater this year with confirmation today from Google via a puzzle sent out on social media.
The puzzle took the form of clues which started with a website – – sent out from the Google Developers social media accounts on Twitter and Google+:

The link took visitors to a website – savethedate.foo – which outlined that 5 puzzles would need to be solved to unravel the mystery. The first mystery was solved by heading to the Github repository when you clicked the ‘Go’ icon on the savethedate.foo website which included a latitude and longitude (lat: -28.092472, lng: -52.419667) which links to a location in Brazil.
There’s a team of interested Google fans working on the problem in a Discord channel who appear to have gone on from there to solve the mystery based on the locations. The mystery involved Google earth and transcribing the latitude and longitudes onto a chessboard, but resulted in this:
While Google has yet to confirm the conclusion (that pic is from their site though), the takeaway is that if you’re a developer then you should probably get ready for Google to open the applications for tickets to the notoriously hard to attend event in the next couple of months. Tickets to Google I/O have been around $900USD for a general entry or $300USD for a student entry for the last several years, so it’s definitely not cheap.
