There is so much to see and do here at Computex, but one of the toys I actively sought out today for a look at was the Zenfone AR. Initially it came to our attention in January and now we’ve been able to spend a bit more time with it.
For such a powerful device it really does have some wonderfully slick lines and isn’t cumbersome to hold. There’s a lot of hardware jammed into a phone that is near identical size to the Pixel XL and feels very similar. As a phone, noting we only had a little time we got with the device, it performs admirably and with the huge amount of RAM onboard that should hardly be a surprise to anyone.
The phone itself is a really slick piece of hardware and in hand feels much as you can see from the specs below, but the Augmented Reality features open a whole new world of excitement to mobile users.

Ready for Daydream and as the first high end Tango phone, it’s a lovely bit of kit with some great functionality that will certainly expand in the near future.
Sadly though, we’re still yet to see further information on pricing and availability within Australia. When asked the Asus staff at the stall were quite guarded about any plans for expansion into new markets. There’s little reason, at this stage, to believe it will come to Australia.
Is the Zenfone AR a device you’ll consider as a future purchase, or just something you want to have a play with?
