Sony has just announced the first new Android phones running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, with the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact launching in September. Now they’ve announced which of their already released phones will see the latest tasty treat from Google.
Sony will be updating most of their recent devices, in fact most of their X series is listed as in line for an update to Oreo. The standard for updates these days is 18 months for ‘Treat’ updates, with 2 years of security updates. Sony has been pretty good at coming close to these time-frames for their phones. The complete list in line for Oreo includes:
- Xperia X
- Xperia X Performance
- Xperia XZ
- Xperia X Compact
- Xperia XZ Premium
- Xperia XZs
- Xperia XA1
- Xperia XA1 Ultra
- Xperia Touch
- Xperia XA1 Plus

We are delighted to announce the availability of Android 8.0 Oreo for our Xperia owners. We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible. Please stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest as it happens.
For most users, the update will be required to undergo carrier testing, but if you purchased your Xperia handset from Sony directly you’ll be in line quite fast. We’ll be keeping an eye on when the updates start, but that’s a pretty good list.
