This afternoon, around 6pm, the Australian Parliament made history, with the House of Representatives voting overwhelmingly to pass the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Bill 2017.

You can see the moment the decision was reached here:

One of the last remaining pieces of lawful discrimination was undone today, and with royal assent (likely to be granted in the next couple of days) our LGBTIQ friends will finally be able to lawfully wed in this country, and for those who are already married overseas, their relationships will finally be recognised by law here.

For all our of family, friends, loved ones and for Australia as a whole, we celebrate this moment, and to those readers who expressed their support for us joining the campaign, a heart-felt thank you.

Thank you for covering this on Ausdroid. My partner and I have been together 10 years and counting. It means a lot that you’ve raised awareness and support for this cause.

My (now husband) and I were married in Maui in September… Finally after 21 years together, once we have royal ascent to the bill, our marriage will be recognised here… YES!
