After Google launched their Augmented Reality (AR) Stickers for Android yesterday, Facebook has today launched their own AR tools for Messenger.

Called ‘World Effects’, the AR tools build on the native camera implementation in Messenger which was introduced a year ago. World Effects allows you to drop 3D objects into your surroundings which can be captured and shared on Messenger. You, or whoever is in the frame can interact with the AR objects, with the camera able to track with the object and the subject in the frame.

Facebook has started with a few AR effects such as the heart (as seen above), a robot and arrow, as well as word bubbles which include words such as Love, Bae, Heart and Miss You. It’s easy to include the World Effects in your Messenger chats, just open the camera in Messenger and then scroll to choose from the camera effects – it’s not quite live for us yet, but hopefully will be soon.
