It’s sometimes easy to forget when we’re using Android that Google is a search company primarily (although advertising company can be argued), but that’s definitely the case and their Year in Search for 2017 has been unveiled showing the trends that matter in Australia – and across the globe.
Google Australia has separated out the Australian searches from the Global searches to highlight those searches that made us different. There’s a few similarities in our searching habits but overall we actually searched for more local than global topics including sporting events which made up our top 3 searches, a fad, a famous persons passing and more. The top 10 Australian searches vs the top 10 Global searches look like this:
Australia | Global |

Google Australia has broken down search into a further 10 categories listing the top 10 searches for each on their blog.
Categories include: News, Global People, Aussies, Loss, Sporting Events, How to…?, What is…?, Why is…?, Recipes and How to cook…?. It’s well worth a look.
Google themselves has made the global search results for 2017 available at google.com/2017 which lets you sort by Global results or by country if you want to see a specific result.
Globally, we share a lot of similarities, but a lot of differences so it’s interesting to see what each country is interested in. There was a big focus on ‘How’ this year, and if you have a couple of minutes, the Google Year in Search 2017 video is worth a watch too.
