Location company is getting into photo sharing with the launch of a new photo app, 3WordPhoto, that lets you share a photo – and exactly where you took it.
If you haven’t heard of What 3 Words before you’re not alone, but it’s a pretty good idea. The company has divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique 3 word address.
This hyper-localisation allows them to map everywhere, in theory allowing them to locate anywhere on earth to a good degree of accuracy. Their system has allowed them to do things such as organise the Monolian postal system – a place where traditional street addresses are essentially non-existent – allowing them to run their mail service.
The 3WordPhoto app basically lets you share exactly where a photo is taken down to a 3mx3m square. Simply snap a shot, then ensure the location you snapped it in is correct, then you can share the photo with the 3 word address overlaid on the photo – which once you share it on social media, allows anyone curious to see exactly where on earth you were when you took it.
It’s incredibly easy to use, snap a shot, check the location (and amend if necessary) and once you’re happy with where the 3-word description of your location is, then share your picture to your favourite social networking site. You may want to put some sort of explanation into your description when you share your pic but it’s really quite straight forward.
If this sounds like something you’d like to give a go, head over to Google Play and download it today.
