OnePlus gave their OnePlus 5 users a Christmas present of a “stable” Oreo build. Unfortunately said Oreo build contained some bugs previously unnoticed and the rollout of it was halted. Now they have squashed those bugs and have begun the rollout again.
In a staged rollout once again OnePlus are rolling out OxygenOS 5.0.1, with the .0.1 signifying the new bugs they have squashed in this release. The new build brings two main fixes including:
- Bug fixes for third party camera applications
- Fixed network issues for European operators
The bug that affected third party camera applications involved a black display when using the app. The network issues are obviously a more serious issue though and it is good to see this fixed. I have not noticed any issues with reception on the Ausdroid OnePlus 5 using the Vodafone network.
Apparently sideloading the new update fails if you have an unlocked bootloader but will work if flashed from a custom recovery (you can always boot a custom recovery if you don’t want one on there permanently). The other option is to relock your device and flash the update before unlocking your device again but be warned this will wipe the data from your device.
The new update does not bring the OnePlus face unlock that is now available for the OnePlus 5 via the Open Beta 3 Oreo build but you wouldn’t expect that to be too far behind as it seems to be working a treat by all accounts (including mine).
If you have a OnePlus 5 and want to update it head on over to the forums and follow the update instructions of other users in the community forum thread. If this is all new to you I suggest you wait for the OTA to arrive on your device.
