OPPO has today announced their latest smartphone for the Australian market with the A73 heading to both retailers and carriers.
Oppo are positioning the A73 as an entry level device, but with high-end camera technology. The A73 has some pretty decent specs when it comes down to it, and with Oppo’s clean unibody design it’s a looker in both Gold and Black colour options.
The emphasis for Oppo is on the camera chops for the A73, and as with the last few Oppo phones the emphasis is on the front-facing camera with a 16MP sensor behind an f/2.2 aperture, while the rear camera is a more sedate 13MP sensor though with a faster f/2.0 aperture. The hardware is backed with improved software features in the camera app that includes the AI Beauty modes as well as bokeh effects.
The A73 is no slouch when it comes to performance, with an octa-core Mediatek Helio P23 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which can be bolstered with a microSD card up to 256GB. A 6″ FullHD+ (2160×1080) resolution display is on the front taking up most of the real-estate, which means the fingerprint sensor is on the rear, although Oppo offers the option for face unlock on the A73.

Michael Tran, Executive Director at OPPO Australia said of the A73
We pride ourselves on offering Aussies fantastic value for money and exceptional user experiences, and the A73 is no exception. We’ve taken a number of the latest high-end features and packaged them into a stylish, affordable device we know Aussies will love and use.
The handset will be available in both Black and Gold colour options from January 8th and cost $289 from Optus as a pre-paid handset but will be locked to their network, while JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks will offer the unlocked version for $359. Woolworths Mobile and The Good Guys will also be offering the A73 but not until February. Finally, if you want to get the A73 on a contract, Vodafone will be offering the A73 in the gold colour option from February 14th.
