New headphones are coming in thick and fast with the media days at CES 2018 well underway. Sennheiser are the latest to announce their new headphones including a smart headset.
Sennheiser are well known for their premium sound and are continuing in the same vein focusing mostly on wired headphones. In Las Vegas they have today announced three new sets of headphones — the closed-back HD 820 headphones, the Bluetooth in-ear CX 6.00BT headphones and the AMBEO Smart Headset.
The HD 820 headphones are designed for audiophiles and promise to deliver “astonishingly transparent sound thanks to a unique glass transducer cover that minimises resonances” — whatever that means. If you are an audiophile it may mean something to you. I have used many headphones made by Sennheiser and their sound is amazing so if they say these are their audiophile headphones they will sound top notch. The HD 820 will be available from June this year.
The CX 6.00BT are very similar to their Momentum Free that we reviewed late last year. They are a Bluetooth 4.2 in-ear headphone with a behind the next cable. They support Qualcomm apt-X and according to Sennheiser are extremely light and comfortable. They have a six hour battery life and fast charge functionality that allows two hours of battery time in just ten minutes of charging. The CX 6.00BT will be available from the start of February.
The last headphone announced seems unlikely to make it to Australia by all accounts but promises to bring a unique experience to the user. The experience is provided by Sennheiser’s AMBEO 3D immersive audio technology which allows the user to capture and listen to binaural audio recordings. Details are sparse on these at the moment but we hope to find out more soon.
Both the HD 820 and the CX 6.00BT will be available here with the CX 6.00BT landing here in early February for AU$169.95 and the HD 820 in June with pricing yet to be confirmed.
