Nokia have made a stunning comeback to the smartphone world since hitching themselves to the Android bandwagon, something they should have done in the first place. They are set to expand on this in 2018 with a high end phone with what promises to be a great camera.
After Microsoft took over Nokia and started its destruction they released the Lumia 1020 smartphone which had a camera that at the time was considered to be one of, if not the best smartphone cameras around. Recent rumours point to a likelihood that Nokia and HMD are looking to release a similar phone with updated hardware and Android this year.
A source on Baidu who works within the Foxconn R&D business has been teasing those there with details of this upcoming phone. There will apparently be a circular camera on the back, such as that on the Lumia 1020. This circular camera will house 5 lenses and 2 LEDs — yes, seven holes in the circular camera.
How these five cameras will operate and what functionality it would/could bring is unknown at this stage but hopefully more details will emerge soon.
The phone is rumoured to pack a Snapdragon 845 and will arrive in April/May although it is still in the “verification stage”. There are no details regarding the display on the phone although “full screen” is mentioned a few times in the source. If your Chinese is better than mine (and Google Translate’s) head over to the source and let us know the exact details.
Hopefully this phone turns out to be real and the smartphone is all that it is meant to be. With any luck we will see it land here in Australia — there is always room for another smartphone with an amazing camera.
Hmm, they have the scope to make a triumphant return, but can they keep the price down to a point where it will shift relative to the samsungs etc.?
