Taiwanese based smartphone maker HTC won’t have a flagship phone launching at Mobile World Congress next week, but they may still have something with details of a new HTC Desire handset making the rounds.
The rumours of a new HTC Desire first started last week when well informed leaker Evan Blass shared details of a device code-named ‘Breeze’ that he believed would be launched under the HTC Desire 12 branding. The tweet shared some specs for the phone, including that it may have an 18:9 aspect ratio display:

Like any good leak, there’s truth behind it with the latest information on the Desire 12 coming from Android Authority in the shape of a picture of the specs portion of a retail box.
As you can see, the phone will indeed include a 5.5″ 18:9 aspect ratio display with a 720×1440 resolution and a Mediatek SoC, though the type and speed is not specified. It appears there may be more than one variant of the Desire 12 – something that HTC is known for – with this retail box listing slightly higher specs than those listed previously by Evan. The box for this Desire 12 includes 3GB RAM/32GB on-board storage (and microSD support) with a 12MP rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera with a 2,730mAh battery powering it.
There’s no information on the device’s launch market or even a launch date but with Mobile World Congress next week we could see more about the phone there.
