Google and Dropbox have today announced a new partnership which will allow for deeper integrations into G Suite, allowing cross platform use of Hangouts, Gmail and the suite of Drive products.
Dropbox users will now be able to create, open, and edit Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides from within Dropbox, you can also save your Google Docs into your Dropbox account.
Dropbox also says that business administrators will be able to manage Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides just like any other content that lives in Dropbox.
The new integrations will also see Dropbox develop additional native native G Suite integrations with G Suite communications tools: Gmail and Hangouts Chat, which are aimed at collaboration between teams, allowing them to keep project content connected to the conversations around it. The integrations will see an addon for Gmail which will allow users to ‘select and generate Dropbox file links from directly within Gmail’ as well as see metadata on Dropbox content in Gmail which includes date created, last saved, and last accessed if selected. The Dropbox and Hangouts integration will allow Dropbox users to search, share, and preview Dropbox files in Google Hangouts.
With these new announcements, Dropbox is moving to integrate directly with one of the more popular online collaborative tools, giving their users more options when it comes to working. Dropbox says that these new integrations are expected to be available starting in the second half of 2018.
