HSBC has today announced that they are now offering their customers the option to associate their HSBC credit and debit cards with Google Pay for use in stores, and online.

The launch will allow HSBC customers to associate their retail credit and debit cards, including the new Everyday Global Account with Google Pay. Graham Heunis, Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, HSBC Australia said

We’re proud to introduce Google Pay to our retail customers in Australia and offer Android users the simplicity and security of e-wallets. Using Google Pay, our customers can make transactions online or anywhere contactless payments are accepted and will still enjoy the same perks and protections from their HSBC cards.

The process for adding and using HSBC cards to Google Pay is the same, you need an Android phone running Android 4.4 or above with NFC and the newly rebranded Google Pay app, available from the Google Play Store. Once the card is added, it’s a matter of tapping and paying in-store, with purchases up to $100 not requiring a pin. Customers will also be able to shop more easily on-line with Google Pay available in apps, and on websites as a method of payment.

This is the first Australian financial institution to offer ‘Google Pay’ after it was rebranded earlier this year. In Australia, Google Pay is now available at over 50 financial institutions including banks and credit unions.

The Google Support site for Google Pay has not yet been updated to list HSBC as a partner, but it should only be a matter of time. If you have a HSBC credit card, then download the app from Google Play and start tapping.
