LG G7 ThinQ will be announced on May 2nd/3rd in a dual launch in Seoul and New York

The long awaited, awkwardly named, and for now, fairly well leaked, LG G7 ThinQ phone will be launched at dual events on May 2nd and 3rd in New York and Seoul, as announced by LG this afternoon.

The name has been confirmed as well, with LG confirming the ThinQ name that they’ve associated with their Artificial Intelligence will be attached to the flagship level G7 handset when it launches. LG first started attaching the ThinQ branding with the V30S that launched at Mobile World Congress in February. The ThinQ AI incorporates both Voice and Vision AI components, with the Voice AI powered by Google Assistant, while the Vision AI incorporates object and scene recognition in the camera for improved photography.

The events will be held at the Metropolitan West in Manhattan, New York, while the Seoul event will be a public affair on Yongsan Ip Park Mall in Seoul on the 3rd of May. LG has said they have plans to invite tech media to both events to check out the latest innovations, with Ha Jeong-wook, managing director of LG Electronics saying

Since smart phones have focused on filling new functions and more functions so far, it is time for us to find solutions to how convenient customers actually use them. We will show the convenience that we have not seen until now by concentrating the accumulated AI technology.

The phone, which will apparently come in five colours – “Aurora Black,” “Platinum Grey,” “Moroccan Blue,” “Moroccan Blue (Matte),” and “Raspberry Rose” – is rumoured to have a 6″ QHD+ resolution MLCD+ display (with a notch) and be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and come with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. The camera, which is expected to have dual sensors on the rear, will possibly include an f/1.5 aperture.
