The purchase of Ring by Amazon in February for a rumoured cool $1 billion has been officially completed overnight, and Amazon is celebrating by cutting the price of their headline product, the Ring Video Doorbell to $149.
The doorbell was previously listed at $199, so a $50 discount is pretty decent for a doorbell that Phil quite enjoyed using when he reviewed it a couple of years ago.
The sale of Ring to Amazon will, according to Ring CEO and Chief Inventor of Ring Jamie Siminoff, allow the company to ‘accelerate our mission dramatically by connecting more neighbours globally and making our security devices and systems more affordable and accessible.’
With the addition of the Ring suite of products, which includes the Ring Video Doorbells as well as Ring Spotlight Cams, Ring Floodlight Cams, and a range of Ring Accessories, Amazon has quite the selection of home monitoring products. As well as acquiring Ring, Amazon also purchased smart camera and also doorbell maker Blink in December last year and Amazon also has their own Cloud Camera available as well.
Amazon has said that Ring, Blink, and Amazon Cloud Cam will continue operations under their respective brands, though how long that will last remains to be seen. Amazon has also said that customer service teams for each company will continue to operate to mitigate any interruptions in service.
typical, price drop after I have bought one. Hope they can improve them, the wifi connection is shyte, despite the phone getting full signal at the same point.
Yeah when they say something like “connecting more neighbours globally ” I say no to them. I like my privacy.
