The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch is almost upon us, and Samsung is getting their regulatory ducks in a row ahead of the event. The international version of the Note 9 has passed the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) already, and now it’s the turn of the S Pen which will be, for the first time ever, connecting to the phone via Bluetooth.
The Galaxy Note 9 S Pen has hit the FCC with the model number EJ-PN960 – matching with the Galaxy Note 9 model # of SM-N960 – with the Bluetooth Test report in the FCC application listing the Equipment Under Test (EUT) as a ‘Stylus Pen’.
The S Pen will connect to the Galaxy Note 9 using Bluetooth LE, though what version of Bluetooth (likely BT 5) it will use but it is using the 2.4GHz band.
Previously we’ve seen leaker @UniverseIce state that the S Pen would be connecting to the Note 9 via Bluetooth enabling all sorts of interesting new functions including being able to ‘be used to control long-range self-timer, control music playback.
Exactly what else Samsung has planned for users to do with the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen remains to be seen, but with the announcement taking place on August 9th (August 10th here in Australia), we don’t have long to go find out.
Hmm…
Over the longer term, isn’t this going to pwn battery life?
Can you use the S-pen whilst you are using blue tooth headphones?
