It’s not a major update, but the update to the Wear OS on Google Play is a meaningful one at least if you’ve been using Google Pay on your watch.
The update to the Wear OS app is bringing about some decent updates for a simple app update, but if anyone can do it, Google can. The list of updates is included in the ‘What’s New’ section of the Google Play Store:
- Pay faster with quick starting Google Pay
- Get a more glanceable design for events & appointments
- Get the time zone sync bug fix
There’s three potentially good updates there, with Google Pay tending to take an age to load on the Huawei Watch 2, so any speed improvements would be appreciated. The new glanceable design for events and appointments could also be good, however we’ll have to wait and see, and we’re not aware of any time zone issues but this will apparently fix them.
If you have a Wear OS device on your wrist, then make sure you’ve updated the app on Google Play.
It is quicker to load the Google Pay app. About a second on my HW2 compared to what used to feel like 7 or 8.
I just wish that they’d allow us to set the Google assistant language on the watch to Australian English. It’s been an issue for months and nobody wants to do anything about it.
You can. In the Wear OS app on your phone, scroll down to Google assistant, Settings, under Devices, Wear OS, Assistant language.
You can change it, but assistant will only work over wifi and not mobile data with any language other than both phone and watch set to USA English.
It has never worked. It resets instantly to US English.
