We have a new Galaxy Note9, a new Galaxy Watch and we’ll soon have a Galaxy Home according to Samsung who teased the Bixby powered smart speaker at their Galaxy Unpacked event this morning.
The speaker is purely in the teaser stage, so there’s no word on pricing or release date. What we do know is that the sound has been tuned by Harman Kardon and AKG with six mid to high range speakers in a circular array and a sub woofer for providing richer bass. The speaker uses Harman’s sound technology that use the eight far-field microphones that detect your location and steers the music right towards you when you say ‘Hi Bixby, SoundSteer’.
The Galaxy Home will be a central hub for your smart home with support for Samsungs IoT platform Smart Things and of course Bixby is built-in. Samsung says that commands will be activated using the ‘Hi Bixby’ command and you’ll be able to access many functions.
The speaker will likely be coming closer to the end of the year, perhaps around the Samsung Developer conference. As soon as Samsung has something to share on the Galaxy Home, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Bixby? Hard pass.
Seconded. Swerve for me too.
I quite like the way that looks. Much prefer it to the Google Home. Now if I could ditch Bixby for the Google Assistant I might be interested…
In the 1970s, there was a craze to give ‘fondue sets’ as presents. I think it was a device that melted cheese. Anyway the Galaxy Home looks a bit like one of these. I can imagine someone putting a flame under the bottom of it.
