Nokia have made a bold move this year moving all of their devices to either Android One or Android Go. Today they have announced a new Android Go handset joining the Nokia 1 as a Nokia/HMD Android Go handset — The Nokia 2.1.
The new Nokia 2.1 is a big step up from the Nokia 2 with a “50% performance on it’s processor” thanks to the upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 425. Combined with Android Oreo (Go Edition) you can be sure that switching apps will be faster and smoother. The minimal nature of Android Go means that the 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage with SD card support is all that it needs to run efficiently.

The HD (1280 x 720P) LCD display is also larger at 5.5 inch, surrounded by dual front facing speakers offering a better multimedia experience over its predecessor. The phone has a 16:9 aspect ratio, bucking the trend of the 18:9 display. There is a single rear camera of 8MP and a 5MP front facing camera. The 4,000 mAh battery promises two day battery life with faster charging than the previous model.
The Nokia 2.1 will be available in Blue/Copper from 4 September 2018 for $199RRP at Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi, and $149 on Telstra Prepaid (SIM-locked to Telstra).
We have found the Nokia 1 to be a decent phone for an amazing price and expect the Nokia 2.1 to be more of the same. If you know someone who wants a basic phone for basic use then we suggest you check out the Nokia 2.1.
