Internet security and privacy are a hot topic these days and there are common practices such as using VPN and Internet Security software to protect you. While it’s not become mainstream as yet, TOR browser is another way you can protect your privacy and this has become easier now it’s available on the Google Play Store.

There’s almost certainly a significant number of readers who aren’t yet aware of the TOR project and it’s certainly worth a quick look if you’re serious about your internet privacy.

TOR is free software and an open network that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.

Now it’s not yet quite as simple as load and go, but it’s not far off. You will need to install the Orbot Proxy app and create a proxy connection with it to allow TOR the connectivity it needs. The team behind the Tor Browser intends to eventually build the Proxy component combined into the browser app for Android, likely by the time it hits their first full release version.

It’s important to note that as an Alpha release, there will certainly be bugs… Potentially lots of them and there is (for anyone familiar with the browser) missing functionality as well, but well worth a look if you like to tinker and try new things out.

What’s your go-to browser and security options for your Android devices?
