This year we have seen Samsung have a safe but uninspiring year. After their turmoil of previous years who could blame them. One place they are looking to improve in 2019 is their smartphone photography are it seems that they are working on their own version of night mode photography to release with the Galaxy S10.
In 2018 we have seen a few companies release night mode photography including Google (Night Sight), Huawei (Night Mode) and OnePlus (Nightscape) but Samsung have been silent on the topic. The folks at XDA Developers have rummaged through the Samsung Camera APK file from the latest Galaxy Note 9 Android Pie build and found some interesting mentions of a night mode with the following text strings showing up:

As you can see above Samsung is looking to use the same technique that other companies use for their night mode called Bright Night. They will take multiple pictures and combine them into a single picture, making that single picture brighter and more detailed — without the use of a flash.
Of course such a new feature you would expect to arrive alongside a flagship device so it is expected to make its debut on the Galaxy S10 early next year.
It has been a while since Samsung innovated but next year looks to be one where they get back to what they used to do.
