For many buyers the world over, the purchasing decision isn’t which overpriced slab of glass will I buy, their decision is more what is the cheapest device I can get.
As such the budget end of the spectrum is an important market segment, especially where reliability and security are concerned.
Alcatel is a major player in the Australian mobile market and has for years provided devices to the lower end of the market. Today, they have taken the wraps of their latest 1-series phones: the 1x and 1c.
While Australian pricing and availability are yet to be announced we’re confident both will make their way here.
Alcatel 1x (2019)
The Alcatel 1x is an 18:9 HD device with Alcatel’s “Full View Display” with 83% screen to body ratio. The 5.5-inch device packs 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and an expandable SD card slot. Running Android 8.1 (not the Go Edition) out of the box, with the 1x you’re starting with a relatively modern flavour of Android.
The 1x includes dual rear camera sensors in a 13MP + 2MP configuration to provide post-processing for image blur, refocusing and bokeh effects. While this may not be the most powerful device on the market, it seems to really deliver more than the entry-level devices historically did.
Alcatel 1c (2019)
While the 1c is the lower end model of the series, it also has Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) along for the ride. This means that buyers are secure knowing that they’ll continue to get regular security updates for a few years to come. At the entry level, we think that is an important differentiator.
The 1 includes a 4.95-inch 18:9 display with a 77.5% screen to body ratio, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and an SD card slot. Sensor wise it’s packing a 5MP rear facing and 2MP front facing camera.
