When we first reviewed the Sonos One we thought it was an excellent speaker but it’s Alexa functionality left a bit to be desired. We bemoaned the lack of Google Assistant onboard and although Sonos’ promises of Google Assistant kept us happy for a while, that while kept being extended into the future. Now Google have let the cat out of the bag and Assistant is finally making its way to the Sonos One and Sonos Beam.
In a press briefing overnight Google has finally confirmed that Google Assistant will finally come to the Sonos One and the Sonos Beam although they did not specify a date, which of course is disappointing but we suspect, and hope, that they left this to Sonos to take the glory on.
In further good news for Sonos owners Google also said that Google Assistant will also support some earlier models of Sonos speakers. There are no details as to which older speakers will be updated to include Google Assistant support but our fingers are crossed for all Sonos owners.
We have contacted Sonos Australia to get the low down on this Google Assistant update and when we expect to see it arrive on our Sonos One speakers and will let you know as soon as we hear anything.
Sonos has the most painful and annoying vapourware shananigans in history.
They promised Google Assistant years ago. Years. I can’t believe they still haven’t done it and now it’s 2019. There are plenty of other Google Assistant products around. Ignore this hollow promise of Sonos.
