Alcatel may not be one of the names people immediately think of when thinking about mobile devices, however, that doesn’t stop them being one of the top shippers of devices in Australia. Alcatel aggressively targets the entry and mid-tier devices offering a robust line up of devices.
At MMWC this year they have taken the wraps off two new devices in their mid-tier category the Alcatel 3 and 3L android phones.
Acatel 3
The Alcatel 3 features a 5.94″ HD+ (720 x 1560) display with small ‘teardrop’ notch, paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 Octa-core SOC, 3GB RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, micro SD card, fingerprint sensor and a 3500mAh battery.
Around the back, it’s got a dual camera set up with a 13mp f/2.0 + 5mp f/2.4 1.12 micron pixel sensor configuration and an 8mp f/2.0 front-facing camera. Port-wise there’s a 3.5 mm headphone jack and Micro USB charging, according to the technical details it doesn’t seem to support NFC.
The 3 will come in Blue-Purple gradient and Black-Blue gradient colours. The 3 will launch with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box
Acatel 3L
The Alcatel 3L features a 5.94″ HD+ (720 x 1560) display again with a teardrop notch, it’ paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 quad-core SOC, 2GB RAM, 16Gb of onboard storage, microSD card, fingerprint sensor, and a 3500 mAh battery.
Imaging wise it has a 13mp f/2.0 + 5mp f/2.4 both with 1.12 micron pixel sensor, around the front it has an 8mp f/2.0 sensor. Rounding out the specs the 3L feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB charging port, no NFC and can be configured as either a dual sim or a single SIM + an SD card.
The 3L will come in Anthracite black and Metallic blue colours. Alcatel has confirmed the 3L will launch with Android 8.1 Oreo and get an update in Android 9.0 Pie in Q2 2019.
Alcatel has placed the Google Assistant and Google Lens front and centre with the 3 series outlining the built-in capabilities that both Assistant and Lens bring with them. It’s interesting to see OEMs focusing on the benefits of having Assistant on board.
With Alcatel representing such a large share of the Australian market, and these new devices coming with what looks to be a strong set of specs we’ll be hunting them down on the show floor when it opens.
