Comic Con is massive and is often too large, too loud and too overwhelming to take the family to — especially those little ones who are massive comic book fans. For those the Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries have their Comic Con for everyone and it is on for the next three weekends starting this coming weekend.
The YPRL Comic Con is a family-friendly community-based event that runs at three locations across Melbourne:
- City of Whittlesea Comic Con: Thomastown Library, Saturday 18 May
- Nillumbik Shire Comic Con: Diamond Valley Library, Saturday 25 May
- Banyule City Council Comic Con: Watsonia Library, Saturday 1 June
The premise of the event is to get people reading more and is an initiative by the Yarra Plenty Regional Library:
Comic Con celebrates creativity, imagination and play. The library is the ideal arena for such an event… Reading a comic is just as important as reading a classic work. We encourage reading whatever the genre, comics or the classics to connecting people to their story and to learning.Jane Cowell, CEO of YPRL
At the YPRL Comic Con anyone can join in the festivities which include:
- Workshop for comic illustrations and graphic novel production
- AR demonstrations
- VR and Gaming experience
- Cosplay — who doesn’t like to dress up as their favourite comic book character
- Comic Con-themed selfie booth
There is of course Star Wars and Lego fun, along with stalls and fan clubs and promises to be fun for the entire family. For more information head to their website and check out the details for each location.
