When Nokia arrived back in the Android world via HMD Global they made a commitment to providing a clean Android skin as well as updates for all of their devices. When they switched to Android One and Android Go they reaffirmed this commitment and today they have shown that they honour their commitments.
Today on Twitter Chief Prodcut Officer at HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas, has revealed that the Android 9 Pie update is rolling out to all Nokia 1 from today. The Nokia 1 is their entry-level Android Go smartphone which we have reviewed favourably here at Ausdroid. Along with the update comes the June security patch and a few other fixes but of course the new Android version is the big ticket item.
Excited to share that our most affordable smartphone, Nokia 1, upgrades to Android 9 Pie starting today. Now there is a Nokia smartphone for everyone running Pie – bringing to you the latest experiences from Google. Nokia phones just keep getting better #Getsmart #Nokiamobile pic.twitter.com/BYONKx6q5n

The result is that now every single HMD Global-made Nokia smartphone (and there are 22 of them) is running Android Pie. This is an accomplishment in itself and there are not many manufacturers who can say that they have done the same. It is an impressive feat by HMD Global and it certainly is what Google wanted to happen when they released Android One and Android Go into the world.
Hopefully other manufacturers look at this accomplishment and attempt to emulate it although I doubt many will given their usual relatively small allocation of resources to software updates. Well done HMD Global. If you own a Nokia 1 time to go and grab the update and enjoy some Pie.
