Espresso Displays is a Sydney-based start-up with a big promise – the world’s thinnest portable touchscreen monitor to improve your productivity every day. Using a clever design process, the LCD display, PCB (circuit board) and casing are just 5mm thick.
It’s not the first portable touchscreen we’ve come across – see my review of ASUS’ Zenscreen earlier this year – but it looks absolutely fantastic. It also has an expected retail price around $473, making it a good deal more affordable than ASUS’ Zenscreen, too.
The project is on Kickstarter now, and while our usual advice about Kickstarter projects holds true here, within 7 hours of listing the project was fully funded. Espresso Display’s projects on timing for delivery are also quite tangible, with early backers expected to receive their devices in a few short months, from February 2020.
Being USB-C bus powered, the Espresso Display can take input from USB-C for compatible devices, or you can power it from a USB-C power supply and feed it HDMI input as well.
There’s two optional addons, too – a flip-case which can be folded into a triangular stand (think iPad style) to hold the display at a relatively fixed angle, and a “MountGo” device which gives you a more flexible desktop-based mounting solution.
Espresso Displays are available in a 13-inch and 15-inch model to suit your needs when working on the go.
Supporting both USB-C and HDMI inputs, Espresso Displays will work on a huge range of compatible devices, including Windows and Mac PCs, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One gaming consoles, as well as many modern Android and Apple iOS devices too.
In each retail box, you’ll receive an Espresso Display (in either 13 or 15-inch at your specification), a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C / A adaptor for older devices, a HDMI to Mini HDMI cable and a microfibre cleaning cloth, giving you everything you need to work and connect on the go.
It’s worth noting that – unless you option one in – it’s not clear that there’s a case provided in the box, so you’ll need to be careful how you carry your Espresso Display around to protect it.
