Tile and HP have jointly announced today the integration of Tile’s tracking technology into select Laptops going forward, the partnership is launching in the HP Elite Dragonfly. We’re told to expect more HP models to be released in the future that will support the technology.
Starting early 2020, the HP Elite Dragonfly will feature Tile’s finding technology as an option, allowing customers to use their Tile app to look for their lost or misplaced laptops, view the last place it was seen, and activate Tile’s finding network for assistance should the device be lost beyond Bluetooth range. The feature works even if the HP laptop is offline or when powered off.
To coincide with the partnership announcement, Tile is releasing a Windows app to control and monitor your Tile devices. Between the Windows and Mobile apps you’ll be able to find, track and ring all of your Tile devices across your account.
Under the hood, Tile has developed a M.2 tracking device that can be inserted into a M.2 port on a device to enable the Tile tracking features. HP has provisioned a part of the core battery to act as the power supply for the Tile, so even if your “laptop battery” goes flat there will be enough charge left to still locate the device.
Like all Tile devices, the locating works via the network of Tile users who have the app installed, virtually turning all Tile Customers into a crowd-sourced finding network. Tile also announced integration with Google Assistant devices, allowing them to both locate YOUR devices and be used to set them to ring. Unlike the crowd network, Google Assistant Devices currently can only find your missing Tiles, I’d personally love them to be added to the network of “finders”!!
