In under a month Samsung will take to the stage at their Unpacked event and announce the Galaxy S20 series of phones. As you would expect in this day and age the leaks have not stopped coming and today we have seen XDA publish a few leaks detailing the display on the Galaxy S20+.
The display on the Galaxy S20+ will be a 3200 x 1440 pixel display (20:9 aspect ratio) but they were unable to confirm the exact size of the display. The 20:9 aspect ratio is designed to make larger displays easier to navigate and use and with the Ultra expected to arrive with a 6.9-inch display it is definitely needed.
The in-display fingerprint scanner will once again be an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor — and hopefully perform better than last year’s models. This was confirmed by the fingerprint area on the display not lighting up when activated — ultrasonic fingerprint scanners do not need light to function.
The big ticket item is the 120Hz display with the UI featuring a toggle within settings to switch from 60Hz to 120Hz (and back again). Samsung may have missed the boat on the 90Hz trend but is jumping in with both feet on the 120Hz. XDA’s source though was unable to get the display to function at FHD+ while using the 120Hz mode — this may be due to pre-release software although there are strings in the settings app which state:
High refresh rate isn’t supported in WQHD+. Your screen will change to standard refresh rate.
The XDA Developer source was also able to obtain a video showing off the design of the Galaxy S20+ which gives scale to the camera module and display:
As you can see (or not see) there is no headphone jack. Sorry to all those people hanging onto the 1990s but Samsung do include AKG USB-C headphones in the box. In the box will also be a 25W Super Fast charger.
As for the other specs they include 11GB of LPDDR5 RAM (I suspect that will actually be 12GB) and a Snapdragon 865 (along with of course an X55 5G modem). Base storage will be 128GB and the battery will apparently be a decent 4,500mAh battery.
Seems like Samsung have found their mojo in the past year or so and in keeping with that the Galaxy S20 is shaping up to be an amazing lineup of devices. We expect all of them to arrive on our shores as soon as they are released — most likely in March sometime — and look forward to putting them through their paces when we get hands on.
