Motorola set the world alight late last year when they announced the 2019/2020 version of the Motorola Razr. Unfortunately when it landed here in Australia it was priced out of most people’s reach but it impressed most with its style and design albeit while having outdated specs and an average camera.
First editions of anything are rarely great so it is with bated breath that we see what Motorola can do with that timeless design and some modern specs. According to the GM of Lenovo South Africa, Thibault Dousson who spoke on a recent Reframed Tech podcast, Motorola are looking at releasing the second iteration of their modern Razr in September this year:
There’s a new iteration [of the Razr] coming up. There’s one in September I think, coming up.
Of course in this day and age of the COVID-19 disease interrupting supply chains and markets throughout the world no timeline is guaranteed — look at how many times the Pixel 4a has been pushed back. It is unusual that if there is a new Razr set to be released in September that we have not seem any rumour or leaks of it and these days it is extremely rare for a phone to be able to be kept out of the news entirely.
Thibault did not provide any more information on the Razr MkII and we will have to wait and see if it comes to fruition. We have no doubt that there will be another Motorola Razr released, it is just a matter of when. Hopefully this time they put some 2020 (or 2021) level performance inside it.
There is definitely a new version on the way, because Motorola had a 2 for the price of 1 fire sale on the first edition recently which is a clear sign of something new coming usually.
