OnePlus in recent year have steadily stopped settling on features in their smartphones and as such the price has increased. Although their price still sits below the flagships of Samsung and Apple they are out of reach for many people and as such they are looking to re-enter the mid-range market segment with a new device, the OnePlus Z.
The OnePlus Z has been rumoured for quite a while but now the leaks and rumours are getting stronger and more frequent with the specs and a release date appearing overnight. According to the new leak the OnePlus Z will arrive with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset with support for 5G — the same chipset that is rumoured to arrive on the Pixel 4a should it ever be released. This goes against previous rumours of it housing a Mediatek processor.
Along with the mid-range Snapdragon chipset the OnePlus Z will apparently have an AMOLED display of 6.55-inches with a 90Hz refresh rate and a fingerprint sensor embedded underneath. The memory will consist of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device will be powered by a 4,300mAh battery with support for their Warp Charge 30 (30W charging).
The rear camera will apparently be a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP, 16MP and 2MP lenses. The front-facing camera will be a 16MP lens according to the latest leak.
The rumoured pricing is set to be Rs.24,990 (AU$490) so you would expect at that price it even sits in the lower end of the mid-range segment. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus can bring their famously brilliant OxygenOS experience to the mid-range. This latest leak is by no means concrete but if correct will place it firmly within the mid-range market segment fighting against the Pixel 4a.
The OnePlus Z is rumoured to be launching on July 10 in India. It is unclear if other regions will eventually see this device but you would expect it to roll out to other Asian countries in the coming months, especially if it is successful in India.
Ticks all the boxes until I got to the massive 6.55 inches screen!!!
