Something we get a bit excited about here at Ausdroid is an Australian tech story, in a landscape dominated by international players it’s always great to see some local flavour breaking through. One such device is the new espresso Display, a multi-touch fully portable monitor.

In a world where we are increasingly more mobile and less tied to a physical office portable technology is becoming increasingly more important. Perhaps you’re working from the road and need a second screen to be productive, perhaps you’ve only got a phone but need a ‘real computer’ to get some things done? That’s where portable monitors come in.

We’ve played with a few and have to say we’re fans, but this Australian take on the concept really has caught out eye. Designed in Sydney the espresso Display come in a 13″ or 15″ variant both supporting 1920 x 1080 300 nit multi-touch displays. The devices are incredibly thin at 5mm, and light at under 1kg for both sizes, partly because they have no internal battery, the espresso gets its juice from the host device or external power supply.

Chris got hands-on with the device last year and he was impressed and called is an easy purchase. The espresso Display costs $429 or $499 for the 13″ and 15″ models respectively, but you’ll need to drop another $60 – $100 to get a portable case of tablet top mount.

It’s always great to see a little Aussie breakthrough.
