Qualcomm has announced this evening an update to their flagship Snapdragon 888 SOC, the Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G Mobile Platform. While the 888 Plus doesn’t represent a giant jump forward, it’s still a nice refresh if you can get it.
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 888 Plus has an increased Kryo™ 680 CPU Prime core clock speed at up to 2.995 GHz, a slight bump from 2.84GHz, and the 6th Generation Qualcomm AI engine with 32 TOPS, a 20% improvement over the original 26 TOPS.
Qualcomm is positioning this as a flagship chip with all of the marketing bells and whistles that go along with it. Alongside the chip, Qualcomm confirmed that several devices would be launching with the new SOC including the next ASUS ROG phone, HONOR Magic3, An unnamed Motorola device, the next Vivo flagship and an unspecified Xiaomi phone.
Qualcomm is expecting devices to ship from Q3 this year, so while that’s still a few weeks to months away, that’s just a blink of the eye in tech timelines.
