Have you ever wanted to give your phone Predator vision? Well you will soon be able to, but it’s not going to be cheap, with FLIR systems announcing their FLIR ONE smartphone attachment for Android phones will be shipping in July.

So what is FLIR? FLIR stands for Forward Looking Infra-Red, essentially it shows an image based on the heat given off objects or people in frame of the camera. The FLIR ONE is the consumer grade smartphone attachment that’s now available for iOS, with the Android module which connects via microUSB coming in July.

The FLIR ONE attachment for Android phones comes with two cameras, one which maps the hotness (or coolness) of objects in frame, and the other which takes a standard shot – combined they give the FLIR image.

Features of the FLIR ONE listed by the company include :

  • Non contact spot temperature measurement
  • Patented MSX Technology for superior image quality
  • Built-in battery means no reduction in handset battery life
  • Features automatic shuttering Lepton thermal camera module
  • Protective case included
  • FLIR ONE App includes features like thermal panoramas and thermal timelapse

The FLIR attachment for Android will be released in July for US$249, with Australian pricing working out at $335.70 AUD with a $23.11 shipping fee on top. That’s right for just under $360 your phone can be used to check out hotspots around your house. There’s a compatibility chart – which lists two Motorola Nexus 7’s but hey – for you to check which lists issues as they’ve been catalogued:
